The 2009 Mundine Family & Friends Reunion turned out to be a huge success thanks to all the fun-loving and good-looking bunch of people who showed up for it. There was a crowd of almost fifty, and the food was fabulous. Below are photographs of some of the people in attendance. Unfortunately, a few people missed being photographed to our dismay. We were having too much fun visiting with one another to stop and take pictures.

These are low resolution pictures; if you would like a copy of one with a higher resolution, email the address below. Or a CD with copies of all the photos can be snail mailed to you.

taylor&grantbaileyChildren make it all worthwhile.

Taylor and Grant Bailey, children of Shannon Bailey, grandchildren of Connie Huff Paenitz, great-grandchildren of Julia Mundine Butler and Carroll Butler. Julia was the only daughter of Charles Patrick Mundine, son of Titus Howard Mundine.

J.C. Fleming sits behind them in a red shirt. J.C. graciously brought some of his and his cousin, Linda Evans, Mundine photos and letters to share. Everyone enjoyed looking through the photos and reading poignant letters from Mundine soldiers serving in WWII.

Linda is the daughter of Oval Mundine Evans, the granddaughter of Titus Mundine, and the great-granddaughter of Charles Patrick Mundine. Charles Patrick was one of Titus Howard Mundine's many children. Thanks, Linda and J.C.!

clint frerich

Clint Frerich, son of Rita L. Mundine, grandson of Ollie Mundine, great-grandson of Titus Mundine, great-great grandson of Charles Patrick Mundine. Clint goodnaturedly accepted the prize for the Mundine man with the biggest ears. We decided Clint's ears really weren't all that big - just the cutest.

We messed up and neglected to get Clint's brother, Casey, in the picture. Next time, Casey!

In front, Taylor & Grant Bailey with their mother, Shannon Bailey, and grandmother Connie Paenitz. Connie's mother was Julia Mundine Butler, her great-grandfather was Charles Patrick Mundine. Shannon and her family, from Fort Worth, won the prize for the Mundines who came the most distance to attend, a $20 gift certificate to South Side Market generously donated by Scott & Jenny Mundine of Colorado who were unable to attend.

Connie's sister, Jo Carol, arrived later. Aunt Julia would be so proud of her beautiful granddaughters, great-granddaughter and great-great-grandchildren.

travis macphaul potts mundineArthur "Potts" Mundine is with his best friend from childhood, Travis McPhaul. Travis gave a beautiful blessing before the meal. It must have helped, no fights broke out, and we all had a blast!

forrest & thelma macdavid

Forrest McDavid with his mother, Thelma. Forrest is the son of Ray McDavid, the grandson of William Franklin McDavid, and the great-grandson of Nettie Mundine McDavid. Forrest donated the prize (with no arm twisting!) for the oldest Mundine veteran, won by Potts Mundine, with Travis McPhaul coming in a close second.

jan reed & john mundine

Jan Reed, daughter of Robert Mundine Jr., granddaughter of Robert Mundine Sr., great-granddaughter of Charles Patrick Mundine. We didn't give a prize for the best food, but Jan's sausage might have won - it was a big hit.

John Mundine, son of Mayo Mundine, grandson of Robert Mundine Sr., and great-grandson of Charles Patrick Mundine. John was the judge for the Mundine woman with the biggest smile. Man, what a difficult job he had.

alice & jeanie mundine

Alice, John Mundine's wife, sits on the left, gabbing with David "Buck" Mundine's wife, Jeanie. Alice & John's son, another John, sits behind them while Buck bends John's ear in the background.

Alice heroically came through with extra forks & knifes, while Jeanie had the thorny job of judging the Mundine man with the biggest ears. She shrewdly said that none of the Mundine men's ears were really all that big, and threw the final decision in Vicky Rose's lap.

jordan & blake mundine

Everyone was thrilled to see Jordan & Blake Mundine arrive. They are the children of Jim Allen Mundine, grandchildren of Ollie Mundine, great-grandchildren of Titus Mundine. The older Mundines have fond memories of their good-natured father Jim, his talkative dad Ollie, and their colorful great-grandfather, Uncle Tidy.

Wait a minute! There's Casey in the background heading for the restroom, but it looks like Taylor is going to beat him to it. At least we got a picture of Casey's backside.

jr clarkJR Clark's grandson, Ryder James Clark, won the prize for being the youngest Mundine present, an uncirculated solid silver dollar cheerfully donated by Dan Rose. JR's father was Junior Clark, his grandfather was Leverett Clark, his great-grandmother was Annie Mundine Clark, his great-great grandfather was Sam Houston Mundine. Sam Houston, the famous statesman, visited his friend Titus Howard Mundine, saw the newborn and asked that he be named after him. This story was collected by Jerry Alexander, whose great-grandmother was Mary Jane Mundine Sherman, Sam Mundine's sister. Jerry and his wife made a surpise visit, and everyone enjoyed meeting them. We're sorry we forgot to photograph them!

Ryder sits with his aunt, one of the beautiful Clark girls from Lexington.

mitzi mundine

Mitzi Mundine Cathey sits with one of her delightful little boys, while Thelma and Forrest McDavid look on. Mitzi is the daughter of Royce Mundine, the granddaughter of Winfred Mundine, the great-granddaughter of Robert Mundine Sr., and the great-great-granddaughter of Charles Patrick Mundine.

Mitzi rightfully won the prize for the Mundine woman with the biggest smile.

opal mundine

Opal Mundine, wife of Winfred Mundine, won the prize for the oldest Mundine present, a walking cane donated courtesy of Dave Ernst Mundine, son of Wallace Mundine, grandson of Titus "Tidy" Mundine, great-grandson of Charles Patrick Mundine. Dave had his money out so fast, it seemed a shame we hadn't asked for more.

Opal sits here with her grandsons, lovable Shane and Ty Cathey, sons of Mitzi Mundine Cathey. Aunt Opal is everybody's favorite, as you can see. Aunt Opal was also a runner-up for the Mundine woman with the biggest smile, but granddaughter Mitzi beat her out.

randy dismukes, clarks

Randy Dismukes, husband of Rita L. Mundine, laughs with Laverne Clark, her children and great-grandson. All these people were in the running for the Mundines with the biggest smiles.

reed family

Rita Mundine, left, visits with Jan Mundine Reed while Jan's husband, Tom, and her son, Joe Wayne Hanke watch over her sweet grandchildren.

We goofed again and forgot to get Jan's beautiful daugher, Jackie, and her husband in the picture. Next time, we do family portraits!

By the way, everyone loved the building. It was like stepping back in time.

rita mundine, jim's kids

Rita Mundine stands proudly over her brother Jim's children, Jordan and Blake. Rita's father, Blake and Jordan's grandfather, Ollie Mundine, was well known and well liked by everyone in Bastrop County. For years, any time someone mentioned he or she was a Mundine, someone would ask, "Are you related to Ollie?"

His daughter and grandchildren inherited his friendly smile.

travis mcphaul, potts mundine

Travis McPhaul and Potts Mundine enjoyed watching all the activity. Travis' wife, Dorothy, was another victim of too much talk and not enough picture taking. Next time, Dorothy!

Travis and Dorothy were honored for having just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Potts stood up for them at their wedding and loaned them a car to take a honeymoon on Congress Avenue in Austin.

travis mcphaul and dan rose

Dan Rose, son of Vicky Mundine Rose, grandson of Potts Mundine, great-grandson of Robert Mundine and great-great grandson of Charles Patrick Mundine sits with one of his favorite people, Travis McPhaul.

Many thanks to Dan for setting up and taking down tables, sweeping out the building, hauling in ice chests, etc. It couldn't have been possible without you, Dan, and all the wonderful people who came together for a little while to celebrate their common heritage and friendship. God bless us, every one.
